Resumo: The article addresses the participatory method in researching with youth from rural quilombola communities and from the urban outskirtin the countryside of Pernambuco, Brazil. We observe the contributions of this method to understand the oppression and the inequalities experienced by these young people and the forms of resistance they have built. Participatory research has been built through several instruments and techniques that enable the construction of information. We used three methods: participant observation, which helped tounderstand the context of the young people, an important stage to support the construction of the second stage; workshops, moments when it was possible to build reflections with the young people; the semi-structured interviews, which allowed us to deepen some of the themes discussed in the workshops. We emphasize the importance of research that allow the participants to talk about their experiences and to reflect on them in order to strengthen resistance practices.

Observamos a contribuição dessa metodologia para compreendermos as situações de opressão e desigualdades vivenciadas por esses/as jovens e as formas de resistência construídas pelos/as mesmos/as. As pesquisas participativas vêm sendo construídas a partir de uma diversidade de instrumentos e de técnicas que possibilitam a construção de informações. Utilizamos três métodos: a observação participante, que nos ajudou a compreender o contexto dos/as jovens, etapa importante para subsidiar a construção da segunda etapa: as oficinas, momento em que foi possível construir reflexões junto aos/as jovens; o terceiro foram as entrevistas semiestruturadas que permitiram aprofundar algumas temáticas discutidas nas oficinas.
