Focus group is a research tool in qualitative research, presenting themselves as an alternative for providing information in the field of physiotherapy. Although, focus groups are not new, their use is still conflicting, with procedures periodically revised. This paper explores the methodological systematization of the focus group, seeking to expand the use of this tool in physiotherapy research. This paper is design as an interpretative academic essay, seeking understanding of the perspective of focus group data collection and analysis as a qualitative research tool in the field of physiotherapy. The writers cover the procedure, analysis, benefits, and drawbacks of this qualitative technique. The conclusion is that the focus group is a data collection tool, requiring from the mediator, care in the composition of the group and in the conduction of the debates, to be able to understand a group's perspective on a topic of interest.
