Resumo: | The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is an important source of mineral in human foods. The objectives of this work were to determine the macromineral content in grains of common bean cultivars, to examine the presence of cultivar x location interactions and to identify common bean cultivars for direct consumption or to use indirected cros- ses in breeding programs. Mineral contents were determined for 19 cultivars obtained in two localities in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, in 2005. Common bean grains were constituted mainly by nitrogen (4.23 g), followed by potassium (1.43 g), phosphorus (0.40 g), magnesium (0.14 g), sulfur (0.13 g) and calcium (0.12 g), in 100 g of dry matter. Signifi- cant cultivars x localities interaction were detected by nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and calcium contents. Cultivar BRS Expedito presents high macromineral content, in the two localities, and suitable for diet enrichment and directed crosses in breeding programs. |
