Influency of substrate salinity in seeds germination and production tobacco seedlings (Nicotiana tabacum)

Resumo: The tobacco production (Nicotiana tabacum) is one crop of high importance in the Rio Grande do Sul. The major part of seedlings are gotten with seedbed, so it is important fast and uniform germination of the seeds. In this direction, choose of substrate more adequate for production of healthful and good seedlings for tobacco is fundamental factor. The objective of this paper was compared the use of substrates in relation to salinity, due to the Na+, for tobacco production. It was used one substrate with humus 0,11% of Na+, one substrate indicated for tobacco culture with 0,01% of de Na+ and sand seedbed, that after 15 days from sowing received nutritive solution without Na+. Germination test, emergency after 7, 16 and 21 days, speed of germination, fresh weight and dry weight of seedlings, seedlings length, chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll were evaluated. The results show that the better substrate for tobacco germination was sand with nutritive solution for 15 days, while in other two substrates with Na+ decrease seeds vigor, the seedlings had shorter development and decrease in content of chlorophyll b and total.

A produção de fumo (Nicotiana tabacum) é uma atividade agrícola de alta importância no Rio grande do Sul. Como grande parte das mudas são obtidas através do uso de sementeiras, é importante que se tenha germinação rápida e uniforme. Neste sentido, a escolha do substrato mais conveniente para a produção de mudas saudáveis e de boa qualidade para fumo é um fator fundamental. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o uso de substratos quanto à salinidade, devido à presença de Na+, para a germinação de sementes em fumo (N. tabacum). Para isso foi utilizado um substrato rico em humus com 0,11% de Na+, um substrato recomendado para fumo com 0,01% de Na+ e areia esterilizada, que após 15 dias da semeadura recebeu solução nutritiva sem Na+. Foram avaliados o teste de germinação, emergência após 7, 16 e 21 dias, índice de velocidade de emergência, peso de matéria fresca e seca de plântulas, compri- mento das plântulas, clorofila a, b e clorofila total. Os resultados obtidos mostram que o substrato que apresentou os melhores dados referentes à determinações realizadas foi areia com adição de solução nutritiva sem Na+ aos 15 dias, enquanto nos substratos com Na+ houve diminuição na germinação das sementes, as plântulas apresentaram desenvolvimento reduzido e decréscimo no conteúdo de clorofila b e clorofila total.
