Resumo: | It was determined chilling hours below 7oC and 10oC for the periods May-August and May-September for 26 localities in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, between years of 1956 and 2003. This work actualizes the study of Didoné et al. realized in 1987. In the period May-August, the number of chilling hours below 7oC varied from 112 to 492 hours, however below 10oC the variation was between 340 to 960 hours. For the period of May-September, the variation was from 120 and 558 hours for tem- perature below 7°C, and from 370 and 1116 hours for temperature below 10°C. The localities presented high values of chilling hours was Vacaria in the region of Planalto Superior; Farroupilha and Caxias do Sul in Serra do Nordeste; Passo Fundo, Erechim and Soledade in Planalto Médio; Bagé, Quarai, Santana do Livramento, Alegrete and Jaguarão in the region of Campanha. The localities whit low values of chilling hours was São Borja in Vale do Uruguai; Santa Rosa in Missões; Rio Grande in Litoral Sul; Taquari and Cachoeirinha in Depressão Central. |

Determinou-se o regime de horas de frio para temperaturas do ar abaixo de 7oC e 10oC nos períodos maio-agosto e maio- setembro para 26 localidades do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, durante o período de 1956 a 2003. O presente trabalho atualiza e amplia o estudo realizado por Didoné et al., em 1987. No período maio-agosto o número de horas de frio abaixo de 7oC variou de 112 a 492 horas, enquanto que abaixo de 10oC a variação fi cou entre 340 e 960 horas. Para o período maio-setembro, a variação foi de 120 a 558 horas para a temperatura abaixo de 7oC, e entre 370 e 1116 horas para a temperatura abaixo de 10oC. As localidades que apresentaram os valores mais elevados de horas de frio são Vacaria na região do Planalto Superior; Farroupilha e Caxias do Sul, na Serra do Nordeste; Passo Fundo, Erechim e Soledade, no Planalto Médio e Bagé, Quarai, Santana do Livramento, Alegrete e Jaguarão, na região da Campanha. As localidades com menor número de horas de frio foram São Borja, na região do Vale do Uruguai; Santa Rosa, nas Missões; Rio Grande, no Litoral Sul e Taquari e Cachoeirinha, na Depressão Central.
