Resumo: | Senna corymbosa is South Brazil native forest species, of great interesting ornamental and medicinal. Intending to contribute for the know-how on this specie’s germination process, the uptake of water and dormancy degree imposed for the integument was studied. Thus, was evaluated in two assays the imbibition and germination processes in seeds submitted in wet heat for three minutes at ambient (control), 60°C, 70°C, 80°C and 90°C temperatures, and the sulphuric acid (98%) for five, 10, 15 e 25 minutes, and mechanical scarification. Imbibbition and germination restrictions imposed for the integument was evidenced. Wet heat above of the 70°C was noxious in seeds germination. The treatments with sulphuric acid, mechanical scarification and 60°C water, were efficient to surpass the integument dormancy and to elevate the germination above of 90%. |

Senna corymbosa é uma espécie florestal nativa da região Sul do Brasil, de grande interesse ornamental e medicinal. Visando contribuir com o conhecimento sobre a germinação desta espécie, foram estudados os processos de absorção de água e o grau de dormência imposta pelo tegumento. Assim, em dois ensaios, avaliaram-se os processos de embebição e germinação nas sementes submetidas à imersão em água por três minutos nas temperaturas ambiente (controle), 60°C, 70°C, 80°C e 90°C, e os tratamentos com ácido sulfúrico (98%) por 5, 10, 15, 20 e 25 minutos, e escarificação manual. Foi constatada a presença de restrições à hidratação das sementes causadas pelo tegumento. A imersão em água acima de 70°C foi nociva à germinação das sementes. Os tratamentos com ácido sulfúrico, escarificação manual e água a 60°C foram eficientes para superar a dormência tegumentar e elevar a germinação acima de 90%.
