Personal protective equipment and its use in the COVID-19 Pandemic Scenario: Experience Report

Resumo: The respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, generated a high rate of infection worldwide, and health professionals represented a significant portion of the number of cases. Therefore it becomes indispensable to adopt biosecurity measures. This is a descriptive study, like an experience report on the experience of nurses who are in the front line in the isolation of COVID-19, at the Tucuruí Regional Hospital in the state of Pará. Due to the uneven spread of the pandemic and the high demand for equipment of individual protection (PPE) there was a shortage of these materials for professionals and thus favored the risk of contamination. According to the current context, many needs that existed at the beginning of the pandemic were being met according to the creation of new protocols, standards and solutions to reduce the contagion by this virus. Therefore, the use of the PPE for the nursing team is of supreme importance for the accomplishment of the assistencial activities to the patient, because the correct use of the PPE promotes health.

Sendo assim, torna-se indispensável, adoção de medidas de biossegurança. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, do tipo relato de experiência sobre a vivência de enfermeiras que estão na linha de frente no isolamento do COVID-19, no Hospital Regional de Tucuruí (HRT) no estado do Pará. Devido a pandemia ter se alastrado de forma desigual e a alta demanda de EPI, houve a escassez destes materiais para os profissionais e com isso favoreceu o risco de contaminação. De acordo com o contexto atual, muitas necessidades que haviam no início da pandemia foram sendo supridas conforme a criação de novos protocolos, normas e soluções para diminuir o contágio por esse vírus.
