Access to Health Services: What the Women Deprived of Their Liberty?

The aim is to analyze how incarcerated women perceive access to health services. This descriptive, exploratory and qualitative study was carried out with 40 women in a female prison in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was used in data collection, semi - structured interview, and subsequent transcription in the integrated. The interviews were submitted to content a nalysis in the thematic modality. Before and during incarceration, women reported difficulties in accessing health services . However, they appear contradictory, inferring the possibility of, after entering the penal system, these women were able to access some health services never visited before the confinement period. It concludes that to ensure the applicability of the current policy, there is a need for comprehensive health care strategies for these women, which ensure access to health services in a bro ader perspective of promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, before, during and after imprisonment.
