Resumo: | Introduction: Post-COVID-19 syndrome is defined as a set of persistent symptoms of acute illness caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus not attributed to other causes. This clinical condition affects a significant portion of the population, impacting their quality of life and health care. Objective: To identify the literature on post-COVID-19 syndrome, and describe its prevalence and main clinical manifestations. Method: This is an integrative review including articles accessed via Pubmed, Lilacs and Scielo published between January 2022 and July 2023, with the descriptors being post-COVID-19/post-COVID-19; long-COVID-19/COVID-19 longa, post-acute sequelae of COVID-19/sequelas post-acute COVID-19, prevalence, clinical manifestations. 525 articles were identified, 26 of which were analyzed and comprised the sample. Results: The prevalence of post-COVID-19 syndrome described in the literature ranged from 10% to 93% and the studies evaluated patients in periods ranging from 1 month to 12 months after acute infection. Post-COVID-19 clinical manifestations can involve multiple organs and affect any of the organ systems. Fatigue, dyspnea and anosmia were the clinical changes most cited in the literature. Conclusion: The prevalence of post-COVID-19 syndrome varies according to the population under study, however, it affects a significant portion of those infected with the SARS-Cov-2 virus. Given the variety of persistent clinical symptoms, it is essential that patient care is provided by a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Health services must be able to act in the face of this global health problem that continues into the post-pandemic period. |
