SPIRITUALITY IN THE VIEW OF THE PATIENT WITH CANCER: REFLECTION IN THE LIGHT OF MERLEAU-PONTY

Objective: To reflect on spirituality in the experience of malignant neoplasms in the perception of the sick person, based on the Merleau-Ponty theoretical framework. Method: This is a reflective study based on the theoretical basis of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, discussing three points: perception, embodiment and being-in-the-world. Results: The studies corroborate and emphasize the spirituality of spirituality in life and its meaning for these patients as a stimulus to receive and cope with the experience of cancer with security and support, which promotes an increase in quality of life and clinical improvement. For such a demand, professionals must prepare themselves in order to carry out humanized and encouraging interventions. Final considerations: The findings contribute to the areas of public health and nursing in better clinical management, due to their relevance and clinical impact, with improved health, reduction of injuries and, consequently, reduction of burden for public coffers.
