Nurses’ knowledge and practice in the neoplastic wounds control

Resumo: The aim of this study is to verify the nurses’ knowledge and practice in the control of symptoms of patientswith neoplastic wounds. This is a descriptive study of quantitative design performed with 22 nurses from aphilanthropic hospital in Campina Grande – PB, during the period from April to June 2016. The instrument wasa structured questionnaire, containing questions related to the control of bleeding, exudate, odor, necrosis andfi stula of neoplastic wounds. The results obtained in this research allowed to identify that the nurses havegaps in the knowledge of contents and techniques on the evaluation and treatment of patients with neoplasticwounds. In addition, it was found that the nurses do not perform some pertinent care to this clientele. Thus, itconcluded that the institution needs to invest in permanent education, in order to train the nursing team tofollow up patients with neoplastic lesions, acquire necessary materials and implement care protocols that guidethe practice of evaluative and therapeutic methods for the care of people with neoplastic wounds, relatives andcaregivers.

Trata-se de um estudo descritivo de desenho quantitativo realizado com 22 enfermeirosde um hospital fi lantrópico de Campina Grande – PB durante o período de abril a junho de 2016. O instrumentofoi um questionário estruturado, contendo questões relativas ao controle do sangramento, exsudato, odor, necrosee fístula das feridas neoplásicas. Os resultados obtidos nesta pesquisa permitiram identifi car que os enfermeirosapresentam lacunas no conhecimento de conteúdos e técnicas sobre avaliação e tratamento de pacientes comferidas neoplásicas. Além disso, constatou-se que os enfermeiros não executam alguns cuidados pertinentes a essaclientela.
