Resumo: | Objective: to evaluate the knowledge of the nursing team that works in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) about care and the patient in cardiorespiratory arrest (CPA) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association published until 2018. Methodology: a descriptive and exploratory study, with a quantitative approach, involving 50 nursing professionals who work in a public ICU in the interior of Bahia. Data collection was carried out between June and August 2019 through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire involving characterization of the subject and knowledge about PCR. The data were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics. Results: 76% of the professionals had the knowledge to identify a CRP. There was a low percentage of professionals who got the antecedent and secondary signs of CRP correct; as for CPR maneuvers, it reduced if the depth of compressions had low assertiveness (8.33%) by nursing technicians. In addition, the correct frequency of compressions, as well as the interruption period, had close percentages of correct answers by 50%. Of the professionals, 90% did not know what is the proper positioning of the defibrillator in a patient with a pacemaker. Despite 92% of declared professionals who are prepared to attend CPR, only 14% recovered the average of values ≥70% classified as satisfactory knowledge. Conclusion: a nursing team has unsatisfactory knowledge on the proposed theme, as many professionals base their practices on the previous guidelines. |
