Hospitality in São Paulo through the rhythm of Adoniran Barbosa

Resumo: This research makes an analysis of São Paulo’s inhabitants’ hospitality, during the decades from the 30’s up to 80’s, using the study of the lyrics of Adoniran Barbosa’s songs, considered as a representative auto-biographical story of an specific segment of São Paulo’s urban population in that period. In order to study how the hospitality was perceived, it attempts to highlight such hospitality in the author’s work, connecting the texts and the author’s biographical information. The results were grouped in categories representing the urban hospitality, among them the access to education, housing, feeding, labor changes, the demolitions deriving from progress, the people resignation in the misfortune, the interracial marriage, the incorporation of American habits in the culture, the bohemian life and the social invisibility.

Esta pesquisa faz uma análise da hospitalidade paulistana entre as décadas de 1930 e 1980 por meio do estudo das letras das músicas de Adoniran Barbosa, consideradas como relato autobiográfico representativo de um segmento específico da população urbana da cidade de São Paulo no período. Com o objetivo de estudar como a hospitalidade era percebida, procura ressaltar na obra do artista os elementos indicativos dessa hospitalidade, relacionando os textos com dados biográficos do autor. Os resultados obtidos foram agrupados em categorias representativas da hospitalidade urbana, entre elas o acesso à educação, à moradia, à alimentação, as modificações trabalhistas, as demolições advindas do progresso, a resignação de um povo diante das adversidades, a miscigenação, a incorporação de hábitos americanos na cultura, a vida boêmia e a invisibilidade social.
