Resumo: bstract: The aim of the study was to observe the relationship between handgrip strength and isokinetic muscle strength, quality of life, caloric intake and adiposity in sedentary elderly people. For this purpose, 37 sedentary elderly people, between 62 and 91 years old, were recruited, divided into two groups. Anthropometric data (weight, height and BMI) were collected. Body composition analysis was performed using Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) and the seven skinfold protocol. Handgrip strength was measured with a manual hydraulic dynamometer and the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) quality of life interaction was used, as well as a 24-hour dietary recall to observe food consumption. was developed using the Shapiro-Wilk test to observe data normality. Quality of life scores between groups of elderly people with handgrip strength ≥16 kg and <16 kg were compared using the Mann-Whitney test. the peak torque of the right knee extensors (r = 0.506; p = 0.007) and of the right knee flexors (r = 0.440; p = 0.022). manual, the group with strength ≥16 kg had a lower percentage of trunk fat (29.9 ± 11.8%), lower total fat mass (29.8 ± 11.1%), and better quality of life in the capacity item functional (79.2 ± 24.1) compared to the group with less strength In this sense, we conclude that strength is intrinsically linked to the well-being and health of the elderly.

Quality of life scores between groups of elderly people with handgrip strength ≥16 kg and <16 kg were compared using the Mann-Whitney test. the peak torque of the right knee extensors (r = 0.506; p = 0.007) and of the right knee flexors (r = 0.440; p = 0.022). manual, the group with strength ≥16 kg had a lower percentage of trunk fat (29.9 ± 11.8%), lower total fat mass (29.8 ± 11.1%), and better quality of life in the capacity item functional (79.2 ± 24.1) compared to the group with less strength In this sense, we conclude that strength is intrinsically linked to the well-being and health of the elderly.O objetivo do estudo foi observar a relação da força de preensão manual (FPM) com a força muscular isocinética, a qualidade de vida, a ingestão calórica e a adiposidade em idosas sedentárias.
