Resumo: Physical fitness has been recognized to be associated with the physical activity habits and health status of a population, as it is a fundamental indicator of individual and community health level. Objective: This research aimed to evaluate health risk factors through the components of health-related physical fitness as a function of gender and age of Akw???-Xerente children. Materials and methods: This study combined bibliographic research with ethnographic research techniques and can be described as a cross-sectional study of interrelationship, characterized as a relational descriptive research. Forty-two students enrolled at the Sr??mt??w?? Indigenous School of Aldeia Porteira aged 7 to 11 years were evaluated. For this, the following evaluations were used: 1) body size measurements; 2) health-related physical fitness 3) types of toys, play and games. For body size measurements, body mass and height were measured. For the variables related to health-related physical fitness, the recommended measurement procedures proposed in the PROESP ??? BR (2016) protocol were applied. The variables studied were: body mass index (BMI), cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility and localized muscular endurance. Traditional toys, games and games were collected through semi-structured interviews with 3 village elders. From the description, the games were categorized based on the six types of categorization proposed by Gosso and Otta (2003): 1) physical contingency / motor sensory exercise; 2) social contingency; 3) symbolic or imaginative; 4) agonistic turbulent; 5) building games; 6) rule games. Results: Among the results, it is noteworthy that the components of health-related physical fitness showed no significant differences between genders. The health-related physical fitness levels of Akw??? children are better than those of non-indigenous children, by gender and age group. Fifteen types of toys, games and games were observed and, among these activities, 73.3% are performed almost daily and require a large expenditure of energy. Some of these games have a different cultural nature and are related to ethnic culture and preparation for adulthood. It is believed that high levels of physical fitness can be explained in the different forms of play and cultural games of these children, which demand great energy expenditure. Further studies with indigenous populations are needed to establish national benchmarks of health-related physical fitness of indigenous children. Conclusion: The level of physical fitness of Akw??? children is above the national results found and, perhaps, this level of physical fitness is related to traditional ethnic games and play.
