Intersectionality in the incarceration of women in southwestern Paraná

This article analyzes the intersectionality between gender, race and class in the incarceration of women in the context of the Pato Branco / PR Public Jail. The study is theoretically based on decolonial feminism, which proposes an analysis of the coloniality of power and being; and black feminism, which advocates the category of intersectionality. In this way, the research on incarceration allows to consider broader issues that permeate exclusion factors in modern society and that are reflected in the control over bodies inside prisons, especially women's bodies. The study was constructed using the life history method, through semi-structured interviews with women in the jail. We observed that the act of incarceration, when performed with women, in addition to taking control over the body considered insubordinate - aiming to make it docile, submissive and obedient -, ends up reinforcing the patriarchal society and its forms of control over women.
