Resumo: | This critical-theoretical study performs an evaluation of the restructuring process of mental health attention in Brazil of ,identifying some advances and challenges.. Promoted by the Ministry of Health as a public policy during the 1990s, this reorganization pivoted around the citizenship of the mentally handicapped and the reorientation of the model of assistance. The conjuncture of advances route to the recognition of the social rights, allowed that some actors assumed its defense, however, identifies the announcement of a new drawing in the correlation of forces since 2006, guided by critical to the direction printed in the conduction of the assistencial model, that got significant advances in the expansion of the Caps; reduction in the number of stream beds in psychiatric hospitals and changes in the work process. But, the reformist ideário can be appropriate for other forces politics. |

But, the reformist ideário can be appropriate for other forces politics.Efetiva-se um balanço do processo de reestruturação da atenção em saúde mental no Brasil, identificando alguns avanços e desafios. O presente estudo de natureza teórico crítica teve como objetivo promover um balanço dessa reestruturação, tendo como metodologia o desenvolvimento de um estudo de reflexão teórica. Assumido pelo Ministério da Saúde como uma política pública nos anos 90 teve por principal eixo a cidadania da pessoa com transtorno mental e a reorientação do modelo assistencial. A conjuntura de avanços rumo ao reconhecimento dos direitos sociais, permitiu que vários atores assumissem sua defesa, todavia, identifica-se o anúncio de um novo desenho na correlação de forças desde 2006, orientado por críticas à direção impressa na condução do modelo assistencial, que obteve avanços significativos na expansão dos Caps; redução no número de leitos em hospitais psiquiátricos e mudanças no processo de trabalho.
