An analysis of experimental activities in Chemistry based on the Dimensions of Scientific Learning

Resumo: This research presents the results of an investigation that aimed to identify and analyze the Dimensions of Scientific Learning mobilized by students when answering open questions from pre- and post-experiment activities in remote Chemistry classes. To this end, student responses were analyzed in activities that addressed topics such as bean plantation and the Dead Sea, seeking to identify these dimensions (NRC, 2012; NGSS, 2013). Through the analyses, based on the assumptions of content analysis, six Scientific Practices related to doing Science were identified, four Transversal Concepts, which cross disciplinary boundaries, ranging from the identification of patterns to the recognition of the causes and effects of the phenomena under study and two groups of Disciplinary Central Ideas, related to specific scientific concepts. By engaging in the proposed activities, students were able to get involved in different Dimensions, providing for them to build a broader understanding of the ideas of Science.

By engaging in the proposed activities, students were able to get involved in different Dimensions, providing for them to build a broader understanding of the ideas of Science.Esta investigación presenta los resultados de una investigación que tuvo como objetivo identificar y analizar las Dimensiones del Aprendizaje Científico movilizadas por los estudiantes al responder preguntas abiertas de actividades previas y posteriores al experimento en clases remotas de Química.  Para ello, se analizaron las respuestas de los estudiantes en actividades que abordaron temas como la plantación de frijol y el Mar Muerto, buscando identificar estas dimensões (NRC, 2012; NGSS, 2013). Los datos fueron organizados y analizados en base a los supuestos del análisis de contenido e se identificaron seis Prácticas Científicas relacionadas con hacer Ciencia, cuatro Conceptos Transversales, que cruzan fronteras disciplinares, que van desde la identificación de patrones hasta el reconocimiento de las causas y efectos de los fenómenos en estudio, y dos grupos de Ideas Centrales Disciplinarias, relacionado con los conceptos científicos específicos. Al participar en las actividades propuestas, los estudiantes pudieron involucrarse en diferentes dimensiones, permitiéndoles construir una comprensión más amplia de las ideas de la ciencia.A presente pesquisa apresenta resultados de uma investigação que teve por objetivo identificar e analisar as Dimensões da Aprendizagem Científica mobilizadas por estudantes aos responderem questões abertas de atividades pré e pós-experimento em aulas remotas de Química. Para isso, foram analisadas as respostas dos alunos em exercícios que abordavam temas como a Plantação de feijão e o Mar Morto, buscando identificar evidências dessas dimensões (NRC, 2012; NGSS, 2013). Mediante as análises, fundamentadas nos pressupostos da Análise de Conteúdo, foram identificadas seis Práticas Científicas relacionadas ao fazer Ciência, quatro Conceitos Transversais, que atravessam fronteiras disciplinares, que vão desde a identificação de padrões até o reconhecimento das causas e efeitos dos fenômenos em estudo e dois grupos de Ideias Centrais Disciplinares, relacionados a conceitos científicos específicos.
