From the garden to the classroom: methodologies for Botany teaching at school

Resumo: | The present study aimed to analyze and discuss the inclusion of active methodologies in the classroom, using the process of collecting, herborization and confection of adapted exsiccates, to understand the concepts of plant morphology in a public school in Fortaleza — CE. The students' perception of the external space of the school and of the discipline of Biology and contents of Botany were evaluated in a qualitative (narrative of pedagogical experience) and quantitative form, through a semi-structured questionnaire. Among the results, we highlight the perception of the external environment of the school as a learning space, in addition to the distancing of the discipline of Biology and contents of Botany in the students' daily lives. The adapted exsiccates were considered effective and easy to produce, indicating that the use of low-cost models in practical classes is capable of transforming the reality of teaching plant morphology. This is related to the fact that students approach the object of study, live or dry plants, relating them to the terms and concepts used for the form and function of the plant parts. It was concluded that through these differentiated methodologies the distance between students and plants can be minimized, representing a promising strategy for teaching Botany. |

It was concluded that through these differentiated methodologies the distance between students and plants can be minimized, representing a promising strategy for teaching Botany.El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar y discutir la inclusión de metodologías activas en el aula, utilizando el proceso de recolección, herbolarización y elaboración de excrementos adaptados, para comprender los conceptos de morfología vegetal en una escuela pública de Fortaleza - CE. La percepción de los estudiantes del espacio externo de la escuela y de la disciplina de Biología y los contenidos de Botánica fueron evaluados de forma cualitativa (narrativa de la experiencia pedagógica) y cuantitativa, a través de un cuestionario semiestructurado. Entre los resultados, destacamos la percepción del entorno externo de la escuela como espacio de aprendizaje, además del distanciamiento de la disciplina de Biología y contenidos de Botánica en la vida cotidiana de los estudiantes. Los exsicatos adaptados se consideraron efectivos y fáciles de producir, lo que indica que el uso de modelos de bajo costo en las clases prácticas es capaz de transformar la realidad de la enseñanza de la morfología vegetal. Esto está ligado al hecho de que los estudiantes se acercan al objeto de estudio, plantas vivas o secas, relacionándolas con los términos y conceptos utilizados para la forma y función de las partes de la planta. Se concluyó que a través de estas metodologías diferenciadas se puede minimizar la distancia entre los estudiantes y las plantas, lo que representa una estrategia prometedora para la enseñanza de la Botánica.O presente estudo objetivou analisar e discutir a inclusão de uma metodologia ativa em sala de aula, utilizando o processo de coleta, herborização e confecção de exsicatas adaptadas, a fim de proporcionar a compreensão de conceitos de morfologia vegetal em uma escola pública de Fortaleza — CE. A percepção dos estudantes sobre o espaço externo da escola, da disciplina de Biologia e dos conteúdos de Botânica foi avaliada sob a forma qualitativa (narrativa de experiência pedagógica) e quantitativa, através de questionário semiestruturado. Dentre os resultados, destaca-se a percepção do meio externo da escola como espaço de aprendizado, além do distanciamento da disciplina de Biologia e conteúdos de Botânica do cotidiano dos alunos. As exsicatas adaptadas foram consideradas efetivas e de fácil produção, indicando que o uso de modelos de baixo custo em aulas práticas é capaz de transformar a realidade do ensino da morfologia vegetal. Isto está relacionado ao fato de os alunos se aproximarem do objeto de estudo, as plantas vivas ou secas, relacionando-as com os termos e conceitos empregados para forma e função das partes do vegetal.
