Herbarium in medicinal plants as a strategy at Botanics teaching

Resumo: | The contextualization in the teaching of Botany is fundamental for the promotion of a more meaningful learning. In this sense, the construction of herbarium can be a tool used to relate the syllabus to the student's daily life. This tool can make students aware of the importance of preserving Brazilian flora and its biodiversity. In this context, this study had as main objective to contextualize the teaching of Botany through the construction of herbarium of medicinal plants. In addition, it was intended to rescue the empirical knowledge about medicinal plants, arouse interest in botany classes and raise students' awareness of the importance of the conscious use of herbal medicines. The target audience of this research was the 2nd year of high school at the State School Hilda Trautwein Kamal, located in the municipality of Umuarama - PR, Brazil. The students participated in the process of making the herbarium, from choosing the plants that were placed in the paste, to its classification and conducting research on its therapeutic uses. The result of a pre-test (initial diagnosis) shows that the students had no effective knowledge about the medicinal plants used in this study, herbalization or even about the importance of teaching Botany. With the application of contextualized botany classes that resulted in the construction of the herbarium, students obtained greater knowledge on the subject, a fact verified in the evaluation of the results of an applied post-test. |

En este sentido, la construcción de un herbario puede ser una herramienta para relacionar el temario con la vida diaria del alumno. Esta herramienta puede concienciar a los estudiantes sobre la importancia de preservar la flora brasileña y su biodiversidad. En este contexto, este estudio tuvo como principal objetivo contextualizar la enseñanza de la Botánica a través de la construcción de herbario de plantas medicinales. Además, se pretendía rescatar el conocimiento empírico sobre plantas medicinales, despertar el interés por las clases de botánica y concienciar a los estudiantes sobre la importancia del uso consciente de las medicinas a base de hierbas. El público de esta investigación fue el segundo año de secundaria en la Escuela Estatal Hilda Trautwein Kamal, ubicada en el municipio de Umuarama - PR, Brasil. Los estudiantes participaron en el proceso de elaboración del herbario, desde la elección de las plantas que se colocaron en la pasta, hasta su clasificación e investigación sobre sus usos terapéuticos. El resultado de un pre-test (diagnóstico inicial) muestra que los estudiantes no tenían un conocimiento efectivo sobre las plantas medicinales utilizadas en este estudio, la herbolaria o incluso sobre la importancia de enseñar Botánica. Con la aplicación de clases de botánica contextualizadas que resultaron en la construcción del herbario, los estudiantes obtuvieron un mayor conocimiento sobre el tema, hecho verificado en la evaluación de los resultados de un post-test aplicado.A contextualização no ensino de Botânica é fundamental para a promoção de uma aprendizagem mais significativa. Nesse sentido, a construção de um herbário pode ser uma ferramenta utilizada para relacionar os conteúdos programáticos com o cotidiano do aluno. Essa ferramenta pode sensibilizar os estudantes quanto à importância da preservação da flora brasileira e sua biodiversidade. Nesse contexto, este estudo teve como objetivo principal contextualizar o ensino de Botânica por meio da construção de herbário de plantas medicinais. Além disso, pretendeu-se resgatar o conhecimento empírico sobre as plantas medicinais, despertar o interesse pelas aulas de Botânica e sensibilizar os estudantes quanto à importância do uso consciente dos fitoterápicos. O público-alvo desta pesquisa foi o 2° ano do Ensino Médio da Escola Estadual Hilda Trautwein Kamal, situada no município de Umuarama - PR, Brasil. Os alunos participaram do processo de confecção do herbário, desde a escolha das plantas que foram colocadas na pasta, até a sua classificação e realização de pesquisas sobre suas utilidades terapêuticas. O resultado de um pré-teste (diagnóstico inicial) demonstra que os discentes não tinham conhecimento efetivo sobre as plantas medicinais utilizadas neste estudo, herborização ou sequer sobre a importância do ensino de Botânica.
