A university extension activity for particle Physics teaching to High School students

Resumo: In this work it is described a university extension activity which consisted on a short duration course of Particle Physics for a public composed entirely by high school students of different cities in Brazil. It was performed a preliminary survey, aiming to identify possible previous knowledges of the students about the subject, and a postliminary survey, with the goal of verifying the evolution of the students due to the course. The results were positive. The topics covered were conceived in such a way to include some elements of STSE (Science, Technology, Society and Environment), and History of Science, and some of these topics were accompanied by discussions of epistemological nature, always ensuring the proper transmission of the idea of “making-Science” and of the work of the scientist. The working line of this course can be adapted to be applied in the school context.

The working line of this course can be adapted to be applied in the school context.No presente trabalho descreve-se uma atividade de extensão universitária que consistiu em um mini-curso de Física de Partículas para um público composto integralmente por alunos de Ensino Médio de diversas cidades do Brasil. Como levantamento preliminar foi aplicado um questionário, a fim de identificar alguns conhecimentos prévios dos alunos sobre o tema, e um levantamento posterior, visando verificar se houve alguma evolução do conhecimento destes alunos sobre o tema. Os resultados obtidos foram positivos. Os tópicos abordados foram trabalhados de forma a incluir elementos de CTSA (Ciência, Tecnologia, Sociedade e Ambiente), e História da Ciência, sendo alguns destes tópicos acompanhados de discussões de natureza epistemológica, zelando sempre pela correta transmissão da ideia do “fazer-Ciência” e do trabalho do cientista.
