Statistics in the early years of Elementary School: the experiences of two teachers after a collaborative training process

Resumo: This research aims to understand the knowledge regarding the teaching of Statistics that were developed by two teachers from the Early Years of Elementary School, after participating in a collaborative training process. The research has a qualitative approach and presents content analysis as a data analysis technique. The results obtained show that the teaching of Statistics was centered on Descriptive Statistics, on the textbook and without the use of practical research with students. It was observed that after the formative experiences that included the experience of an investigative cycle with the students, the teachers started to: recognize the most adequate type of graph to represent the data of a research, develop characteristic abilities of Thinking and Statistical Literacy; know and know how to apply the PPDAC methodological approach in the classroom. It is concluded, therefore, that it is necessary to develop more training moments, since pedagogues still come from a reality in which Statistical Education is very little explored in their initial training.

La investigación tiene un enfoque cualitativo y presenta el análisis de contenido como una técnica de análisis de datos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la enseñanza de la Estadística se centró en la Estadística Descriptiva, en el libro de texto y sin el uso de la investigación práctica con los estudiantes. Se observó que luego de las experiencias formativas que incluyeron la experiencia de un ciclo investigativo con los estudiantes, los docentes comenzaron a: reconocer el tipo de gráfico más apropiado para representar los datos de una investigación, desarrollar habilidades propias del Pensamiento y Alfabetización Estadística; Conocer y saber aplicar el enfoque metodológico PPDAC en el aula. Se concluye, por tanto, que es necesario desarrollar más momentos de formación, ya que los pedagogos aún provienen de una realidad en la que la Educación Estadística está muy poco explorada en su formación inicial.Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo compreender os conhecimentos referentes ao ensino de Estatística que foram desenvolvidos por duas professoras dos Anos Iniciais do Ensino Fundamental, após participarem de um processo de formação colaborativa. A pesquisa tem abordagem qualitativa e apresenta como técnica de análise de dados a análise de conteúdo. Os resultados obtidos apontam que o ensino de Estatística estava centrado na Estatística Descritiva, no livro didático e sem a utilização de pesquisas práticas com os estudantes. Foi observado que após as experiências formativas que incluíram a vivência de um ciclo investigativo com os estudantes, as professoras passaram a: reconhecer o tipo de gráfico mais adequado para representar os dados de uma pesquisa, desenvolver habilidades características do Pensamento e do Letramento Estatístico; conhecer e saber como aplicar a abordagem metodológica do PPDAC em sala de aula.
