Mathematics in the philatelic art: an historical Mathematics look through images in postal stamps

Resumo: The philately may be a powerful way of communicating science, to persuade society about the relevance of the scientific research. This work proposes that it is possible to communicate and to teach the mathematics through commemorative postage stamps images. By a survey carried through in the postal stamps emitted by some countries of 1843 the 2010, it was looked to analyze and to divulge the contents historical of some scientists who had contributed with the evolution of the mathematical thought. The  initiative and results of this work reveal some possibilities to study the contents of the postage stamps, especially related to classic sciences themes.

Este trabalho propõe que é possível divulgar e ensinar a matemática por meio das imagens presentes nos selos postais comemorativos. Por meio de um levantamento realizado nos selos postais emitidos por vários países de 1843 a 2010, procurou-se analisar e divulgar os conteúdos históricos de alguns cientistas que contribuíram com a evolução do pensamento matemático.
