Knowledge competition: motivating possibility for the teaching and learning of derivatives

Resumo: | The “derivatives" topic is part of the program of the Calculus 1 discipline in many higher education degrees, being one of the fundamental concepts of Calculus. The difficulties shown by the students in learning how to derive motivated the performance of the “competition of derivatives” held in 2019 at the Federal University of Technology of Paraná, Pato Branco Campus. The event’s purpose was to stimulate students to practice the derivatives. The aim of this article was to researching that motivational aspects are revealed by the students who participated in these competitions. Data were collected from questionnaires answered by the participants. The study had exploratory objective, qualitative approach and was based on the Self-Determination Theory and Playfulness. The answers were analyzed using elements of the Constant Comparative Method. The motivation to learn and the urge for playfulness, intrinsic motivations, were the most mentioned by the respondents. However, the opportunity to improve the grade in Calculus I discipline, extrinsic motivation, also presented a relevant result. |

Las dificultades presentadas por los estudiantes para aprender a derivar han motivado a la realización de yincanas de derivadas, realizadas el 2019 en la Universidad Tecnológica Federal de Paraná, Campus de Pato Branco, las cuales tuvieron la intención de estimular los alumnos a la práctica de “derivar”. El objetivo de este artículo ha sido investigar cuales los aspectos motivacionales son expuestos por los estudiantes que participaron de estas yincanas. Los datos fueron recolectados a partir de cuestionarios contestados por los participantes. El estudio tuvo como objetivo exploratorio, abordaje cualitativo y fue fundamentado en la Teoría de la Autodeterminación y en la ludicidad. Las respuestas fueron analizadas a partir de elementos del Método Comparativo Constante. La motivación para aprender y la ansia por ludicidad, motivaciones intrínsecas, fueron las más mencionadas por los contestadores. Todavía, la oportunidad de mejorar la nota de la asignatura de Cálculo 1, motivación extrínseca, también ha presentado resultado relevante.O conteúdo “derivadas” faz parte de ementas da disciplina de Cálculo I de muitos cursos superiores, sendo um dos conceitos fundamentais do Cálculo. As dificuldades apresentadas pelos estudantes para aprender a derivar motivaram a realização de gincanas de derivadas realizadas em 2019 na Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, Campus Pato Branco que tiveram a intenção de estimular os alunos à prática do “derivar”. O objetivo deste artigo foi investigar que aspectos motivacionais são revelados pelos estudantes que participaram dessas gincanas. Os dados foram coletados a partir de questionários respondidos pelos participantes. O estudo teve objetivo exploratório, abordagem qualitativa e foi fundamentado na Teoria da Autodeterminação e na Ludicidade. As respostas foram analisadas a partir de elementos do Método Comparativo Constante. A motivação para aprender e o anseio por ludicidade, motivações intrínsecas, foram as mais mencionadas pelos respondentes.
