The approach given to logarithms in the support material of São Paulo State, in the light of Problem Solving and Curriculum

Resumo: The teaching of Logarithms must enable the student to understand its universality and distinguish the especificities of its uses, besides being an operation that can give rise to mathematical functions. The purpose of the present work is to analyse how the Support Material to Curriculum of São Paulo State – Mathematics Student Book, volume 2, for first year Middle School addresses the content Logarithms in the light of theories about Problem Solving and Curriculum, since the network holds São Paulo State Curriculum (SÃO PAULO, 2010). The adopted research methodology is qualitative involving the technique of document analysis. We have realized that the analysed Learning Situation reaches the curricular prescriptions regarding skills and contents to be developed. The problems emphasize the relationship of Mathematics, especially Logarithms, to other areas of knowledge. In spite of that, in general, the proposed problems do not enable the students to devise their own strategies for resolution and there is a significant amount of closed problems, which limits the students solely to reproduce prescribed procedures without exploring different possibilities of resolution.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar como o Material de Apoio ao Currículo do Estado de São Paulo – Caderno do Aluno, Volume 2, de Matemática para a 1ª série do Ensino Médio, aborda o conteúdo Logaritmos à luz de teorias acerca da Resolução de Problemas e do Currículo, visto que o rede possui o Currículo do Estado de São Paulo (SÃO PAULO, 2010). A metodologia de pesquisa adotada foi a qualitativa com uso de técnica de análise documental. Constatamos que a Situação de Aprendizagem analisada atende às prescrições curriculares em termos de habilidades e conteúdos a serem desenvolvidos. Os problemas evidenciam a relação da Matemática e, particularmente, dos Logaritmos com outras áreas do conhecimento.
