Question of environmental sustainability in Chemical teaching

Resumo: | Although environmental sustainability is a concept widely discussed in the literature, it becomes increasingly evident the rapid advancement of environmental degradation due the excessive consumption of natural resources as a result of human behavior. When the chemistry is applied of the inconsequential form is usually one of the causes of environmental degradation, but if used with responsability, may be the solution of this and many other problems. She can be an ally to environmental sustainability. Due the importance of this issue, a literature review was conducted in order to investigate how environmental sustainability is being discussed in chemistry teaching, especially in higher education. For this we performed a web search of the Higher Education Institutions offering chemistry courses in the south and southeast regions of the country. We selected the institutions federal and state public oldest. In some institutions, we enter into their sites in order to verify if these offer some discipline related to the environment and/or develops on their campi some management of chemical waste. The results of this review indicate that environmental sustainability is one of the concerns of teachers and researchers who teach in chemistry courses of these higher education institutions. |

Embora sustentabilidade ambiental seja um conceito bastante discutido na literatura, torna-se cada vez mais evidente o avanço da degradação ambiental, juntamente com o consumo excessivo de recursos naturais por consequência do comportamento humano. A Química aplicada de forma inconsequente, geralmente é uma das causadoras da degradação ambiental, mas, ao mesmo tempo, quando utilizada de forma responsável, pode ser uma solução, ou seja, pode ser uma aliada à sustentabilidade ambiental. Pensando na importância desse tema, foi realizada uma revisão da literatura com o objetivo de investigar como a sustentabilidade ambiental está sendo discutida no ensino química, principalmente no ensino superior. Para isso realizamos uma busca na web por Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) que ofereciam cursos de química nas regiões sudeste e sul do país. Selecionamos as públicas federais e estaduais mais antigas. Em algumas IES entramos em seus sites com o objetivo de verificar se essas ofereciam alguma disciplina relacionada ao meio ambiente e/ou desenvolviam em seus campi alguma ação de gerenciamento de resíduos químicos. Os resultados dessa revisão apontam que a sustentabilidade ambiental é uma das preocupações dos professores e pesquisadores que lecionam nos cursos de química de IES públicas federais e estaduais dessas regiões.
