Resumo: The text introduces kindergarten representations in the 19th century by means of the circulation of news in the Rio de Janeiro newspaper press, specifically in the newspapers: Gazeta de Notícias, O Cruzeiro and Jornal do Commercio. These papers were chosen guided by Bastos (2011), who disseminates one of the first pedagogical guides aimed at education in kindergarten, the Manual para os jardins da infância, published by Dr. Menezes Vieira in 1882. The research was developed in the National Brazilian Library, Digital Newspaper Library collection, using content analysis (Vala, 1986; Bardin, 1977). The articles appointed to controversies regarding the creation of the first educational institutions of this type in Brazil; the role of kindergartens supported by Froebelian principles; and a threefold emphasis on physical, intellectual and moral aspects.

La elección de las publicaciones periódicas estuvo guiada por el trabajo de Bastos (2011) que publica uno de los primeros manuales pedagógicos destinados a la educación en jardines de infancia, el Manual para jardines de infancia, editado por el Dr. Menezes Vieira en 1882. La investigación fue realizada en el acervo de la Biblioteca Nacional de Brasil, Hemeroteca Digital, guiada por el análisis de contenido, según las técnicas de Vala (1986) y Bardin (1977). La noticia apuntaba a: controversias en torno a la creación de las primeras instituciones educativas de este origen en Brasil; funcionamiento de los jardines de infancia basados ​​en los principios de Froebelian; y tripartita con énfasis en los aspectos físicos, intelectuales y morales.O texto apresenta as representações dos jardins de infância no século XIX por meio da circulação das notícias na imprensa periódica do Rio de Janeiro, nos jornais: Gazeta de Notícias, O Cruzeiro e Jornal do Commercio. A escolha dos periódicos foi orientada pela obra de Bastos (2011) que divulga um dos primeiros manuais pedagógicos destinados à educação nos jardins de infância, o Manual para os jardins da infância, publicado pelo Dr. Menezes Vieira em 1882. A pesquisa foi realizada no acervo da Biblioteca Nacional do Brasil, Hemeroteca Digital, pautada pela análise de conteúdo, de acordo com as técnicas de Vala (1986) e Bardin (1977).
