Education and the clothing industry in the northeast of the State of Santa Catarina: from informal learning to vocational education

Resumo: This research aims to outline a historical overview of vocational education and labor training for the clothing industry in the cities such as Blumenau, Brusque and Jaraguá do Sul. The bibliographical and documentary research presents a timeline between 1850 and 2004, that covers the period between the beginning of Santa Catarina northeast colonization and the consolidation of fashion higher education in the mentioned cities. The study presents the informal training of apprentices such as tailors and domestic seamstresses, public policies aimed at professional training, and above all, the constitution of professional training in the clothing industry organized by the Federação das Indústrias do Estado de Santa Catarina (FIESC) and the “S” System, following the demands of the industrial development in the State. In face of industrialization, the tailoring craft has lost its social function, but its methods of modeling, cutting, and sewing clothes have grown and multiplied in didactic courseware, and in the teaching and learning processes that enable students and teachers. It is understood that the professionalizing educational system must encompass intellectual development, professional qualification and citizenship education. Education cannot just be limited to finding solutions for labor demands, but rather be an active force of building this world, striving for humanization in the teaching and learning processes, so that it is helps in the political, economic, social and professional context.

La investigación bibliográfica y documental presentan un marco temporal entre 1850, período que comprende el inicio de la colonización del nordeste de Santa Catarina, y se extiende hasta 2004, cuando se produce la consolidación de la educación superior en el área de la moda en las ciudades mencionadas. El estudio abarca la capacitación informal de los aprendices, como sastres y costureras domésticas, las políticas públicas dirigidas a la formación profesional y, sobre todo, la constitución de la formación profesional en el área de la industria de la confección organizada desde la composición de la Federación de Industrias del Estado de Santa Catarina (FIESC) y el Sistema “S”, acompañando las exigencias del desarrollo industrial del Estado. Ante la industrialización, el oficio de la sastrería ha perdido su función social, pero sus métodos de modelado, corte y confección de prendas se han multiplicado en materiales didácticos y en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje que capacitan a estudiantes y docentes. Se entiende que el sistema educativo de formación profesional debe abarcar el desarrollo intelectual, la calificación profesional y la formación ciudadana. La educación no puede limitarse a dar solución a las demandas del mundo del trabajo, sino ser parte activa de la construcción de ese mundo, buscando la humanización en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje, para que se perpetúen en el contexto político, económico, social y profesional.A presente pesquisa objetiva delinear um panorama histórico da educação profissionalizante e da formação da mão de obra para a indústria do vestuário nas cidades de Blumenau, Brusque e Jaraguá do Sul. A pesquisa bibliográfica e documental apresenta um recorte temporal entre 1850, período que compreende o início da colonização do nordeste catarinense, e se estende até 2004, momento em que ocorre a consolidação do ensino superior na área de moda nas cidades citadas. O estudo abrange a capacitação informal de aprendizes, como alfaiates e costureiras domésticas, as políticas públicas voltadas para a formação profissional e, sobretudo, a constituição do ensino profissionalizante na área da indústria do vestuário organizado a partir da composição da Federação das Indústrias do Estado de Santa Catarina (FIESC) e do Sistema “S”, acompanhando demandas do desenvolvimento industrial do Estado. Diante da industrialização, o ofício de alfaiate perdeu sua função social, mas seus métodos de modelar, cortar e costurar as roupas multiplicaram-se em materiais didáticos e no processo ensino e aprendizagem que capacitam estudantes e professores. Entende-se que o sistema educacional profissionalizante deve abranger o desenvolvimento intelectual, qualificação profissional e formação cidadã.
