Correlation between the designers' intention and the interpretation of the colors of a clothing collection by people of Generation Z

Resumo: Fashion designers need to make conceptual-thematic choices, effectively delivering a message. Among the elements of visual language used in this codification, color, due to its symbolic aspect, plays an essencial role in the process of visual communication. Therefore, this article seeks to explore the interpretive possibilities of the semantic dimension of a color chart by comparing the effectiveness of the designers' intention on the visual message of colors in a clothing collection with the interpretation of potential Generation Z consumers. The semantic differential (SD) and the free word association (FWA) methods were used in this research, interviewing 4 designers, who coded the collection investigated in the scope of this work, and questioning 52 potential consumers of Generation Z. Thus, the results for SD and FWA suggested a moderate level of understanding between intention and interpretation of color messages.

Entre los elementos del lenguaje visual utilizados en esta codificación, el color, por su aspecto simbólico, juega un papel importante en el proceso de comunicación visual. Por lo tanto, este artículo busca explorar las posibilidades interpretativas de la dimensión semántica de una carta de colores comparando la efectividad de la intención de los diseñadores sobre el mensaje visual de los colores en una colección de ropa con la interpretación de los consumidores potenciales de la Generación Z. Foran usados el método diferencial semántico (DS) y la libre asociación de palabras (LAP), entrevistando a 4 diseñadores, que crearon la colección investigada en el alcance de este trabajo, y cuestionando a 52 consumidores potenciales de la Generación Z. Los resultados para DS y LAP sugirieron un nivel moderado de comprensión entre la intención y la interpretación de los mensajes de color.Designers de moda necessitam fazer escolhas temática-conceituais, entregando de maneira efetiva uma mensagem. Dentre os elementos da linguagem visual empregados nessa codificação, a cor, por seu aspecto simbólico, desempenha papel importante no processo de comunicação visual. Portanto, este artigo busca explorar as possibilidades interpretativas da dimensão semântica de uma cartela de cores ao comparar a efetividade na intenção dos designers sobre a mensagem visual das cores em uma coleção de vestuário com a interpretação dos potenciais consumidores da Geração Z. Aplicou-se como método o diferencial semântico (DS) e a associação livre de palavras (ALP), entrevistando 4 designers, que criaram a coleção investigada no âmbito deste trabalho, e questionando 52 potenciais consumidores da Geração Z.
