The article is the result of research on the Domestic School of Nossa Senhora do Amparo, founded in January 1871, in the city of Petrópolis, which had as its premise to serve poor, orphaned, and underprivileged girls. The overall objective is to analyze the expectations of female confessional training for underprivileged childhood, shaped within that institution. On a more specific level, the study proposes to investigate female Catholic education and its concepts transmitted from childhood; educational pedagogical practices produced within the school; and the Catholic school material culture as a construction that manifests itself in different ways. It is historical research, whose documentary corpus is constituted, above all, by the existing collection inside the school, in an archive entitled “Sala-Museum”. Thus, the study constitutes a contribution to the history of women from the most disadvantaged sections of the population, whose records of their educational practices are still silenced.
