Internationalization in Paraná state: A look at the academic mobility

Resumo: Despite being a process that has been taking place for thousands of years, the internationalization of Higher Education has intensified in the last two decades due to the advance of globalization along communication technologies. In the Brazilian setting, it has gained greater prominence in the last decade with the creation of the Science without Borders program, which contributed to a greater number of Higher Education institutions to accelerate their internationalization agendas. Within this context, the mobility is one of the main modalities of this process and it promotes cultural and cognitive interaction between universities and nations. In recent years, universities in Paraná have stood out in internationalization rankings at the South American and world levels for adopting practices aimed at the internationalization of their activities. Inserted in this context, the following work aims to investigate how mobility is presented in the official documents of the seven state universities of Paraná. To achieve this objective, we are guided by internationalization studies such as Knight (2004; 2012), De Wit (2015; 2019) and Finardi (2015), in Krieger and Finatto's Terminology studies (2021), Barros (2004), Barbosa (1998; 2004) and Faulstich (2001). The methodology chosen was Corpus Linguistics (BERBER-SARDINHA, 2004) using Sketch Engine software. The study corpus is composed of internationalization plans or policies from the chosen institutions. After analyzing the corpus, we found that the term “mobility” occurs as a hyperonym and its hyponyms demonstrate how it is treated in official internationalization documents.

No cenário brasileiro, ela ganhou maior destaque na última década com a criação do Programa Ciências sem Fronteiras (CsF), o que contribuiu para que um número maior de instituições de ensino superior acelerasse suas agendas de internacionalização. Inserida neste contexto, a mobilidade é uma das principais atividades desse processo e promove uma interação cultural e cognitiva entre universidades e nações. Nos últimos anos, as universidades paranaenses destacaram-se em rankings sul-americanos e mundiais por adotarem práticas que visam à internacionalização das suas atividades. Inserido nesse contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar como a mobilidade é apresentada nos documentos oficiais das sete universidades estaduais paranaenses. Para atingirmos tal objetivo, guiamo-nos pelos estudos da internacionalização, como o de Knight (2004, 2012), De Wit (2015, 2019) e Finardi (2015); pela Terminologia de Krieger e Finatto (2020), Barros (2004), Barbosa (1998, 2004) e Faulstich (2001). A metodologia escolhida foi a Linguística de Corpus (BERBER-SARDINHA, 2004), utilizando-se o software Sketch Engine. O corpus de estudo é composto pelos documentos de política ou plano de internacionalização das instituições estaduais do Paraná.
