Resumo: The urban growth anchored in the discourse of development has modified the landscape of several Brazilian cities. The logic of urban sprawl ignores the need for planning, disregards the natural aspects, and causes the population and the city to suffer from the problems of extreme events such as floods. In 2010 and 2017, Palmares-PE suffered severe flooding due to heavy rains that hit the region. In view of this, the present research has the objective of comparative analysis of these two events, identifying their similarities, particularities and the natural conditions that contributed to the floods in the urban area of ​​Palmares. The research, still in the preliminary phase, used climatological and geomorphological data made available by the Agência Pernambucana de Águas e Clima (APAC) and the Companhia de Pesquisa de Recursos Minerais (CPRM), as well as geoprocessing tools. Preliminary results indicate the climatic variations between the two events and how anthropogenic pressures on the municipality have potentiated the flood events for the region.

A lógica da expansão urbana ignora a necessidade de planejamento, desconsidera os aspectos naturais e conduz a população e a cidade a sofrer com os problemas decorrentes dos eventos extremos, como as inundações. Em 2010 e 2017, Palmares-PE sofreu com inundações severas devido a fortes chuvas que atingiram a região. Diante disto, a presente pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar de forma comparativa estes dois eventos, identificando suas similaridades, particularidades e as condições naturais que contribuíram com as inundações na área urbana de Palmares. A pesquisa, ainda em fase preliminar, utilizou dados climatológicos e geomorfológicos disponibilizados pela Agência Pernambucana de Águas e Clima (APAC) e da Companhia de Pesquisa de Recursos Minerais (CPRM), bem como ferramentas de geoprocessamento.
