New logic in the production of cane sugar in the Zona da Mata pernambucana: transformations land structure to the perpetuation of power relations

Resumo: The land structure of the Zona da Mata region of Pernambuco is characterized, since the beginning of European colonization, as latifundium and sugar cane plantation. These elements are still composing the region, despite the insertion in the field of new productive forms and working relationships. In this sense, the main objective of this article is understand and analyze the process of transformation of the Zona da Mata de Pernambuco and the consequences to the spatial organization of the region. The 1980s and 90s represent a landmark of temporal attempt to change this land structure on the part of the State forward the social tensions generated in the field. This way, there is a new logic in the production of sugar cane, with the territories reconfiguration, but with the perpetuation of power relations.

La estructura agraria de la Zona da Mata de Pernambuco es caracterizada, desde el comienzo de la colonización europea, por las grandes propiedades y por la monocultura de la caña de azúcar. Estos elementos siguen componiendo la región, a pesar de la inserción de nuevas formas productivas y relaciones de trabajo. En este sentido, el objetivo de este artículo es entender y analizar el proceso de transformación de la Zona da Mata de Pernambuco y sus consecuencias para la organización espacial de la región. Los años 1980 y 90 representan un hito temporal de intento de cambiar esta estructura agraria por parte del Estado hacia las tensiones sociales generadas en el campo. Esta manera, hay una nueva lógica en la producción de caña de azúcar, con una reconfiguración de los territorios, pero con la perpetuación de las relaciones de poder. A estrutura fundiária da Zona da Mata pernambucana é caracterizada, desde o início da colonização europeia, pelos latifúndios e a monocultura de cana de açúcar. Esses elementos ainda permanecem compondo a região, apesar da inserção no campo de novas formas produtivas e de relações de trabalho. Nesse sentido, buscou-se neste artigo compreender e analisar o processo de transformação da Zona da Mata pernambucana e seus desdobramentos na organização socioespacial da região. As décadas de 1980 e 90 representam um marco temporal da tentativa de mudança dessa estrutura fundiária por parte do Estado frente às tensões sociais geradas no campo.
