Resumo: This research aims to compare the conception of childhood between Carlos, a mil boy, literary work by José Lins do Rego, Pacu, character in the film Abril Despedaçado and the childhood of one of the researchers. It is a research of qualitative descriptive approach, of childhood analysis both of literature, cinema and real life, discussing the different forms of childhood and how they are influenced by the context where they live. The social and economic differences between the three stories are noticeable, the privilege of being a boy of mills, with different opportunities in schooling, the presence of child labor - the result of subsistence and denial of public policies. As well as the similarities between the ways of playing, family conflicts, the mother's absence.

É uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa descritiva, de análise de infâncias tanto da literatura, do cinema e da vida real, discutido as diferentes formas de infância e como elas sofrem influência do contexto onde vivem. São perceptíveis as diferenças sociais e econômicas entre as três histórias, o privilégio de ser um menino de engenho, com as oportunidades diferentes na escolarização, a presença do trabalho infantil - fruto de subsistência e negação das políticas públicas.
