Fake news approach in chemistry teaching: teachers' conceptions and practices

Resumo: Much information not based on science, such as fake news, has been disseminated on the internet. The school becomes a space where this information must also be addressed. In this work, we sought to investigate the conceptions and practices of high school chemistry teachers about the fake news approach in the classroom. This qualitative and exploratory research was carried out with 5 chemistry teachers who participated in an interview using the WhatsApp application. Through the teachers' answers, we realized that they do not dominate the meaning of the term fake news, but they have had the need to address them in the classroom due to the pandemic. Participants consider that this approach is important to develop critical analysis by the student, but that planning is necessary to work with fake news.

A escola torna-se um espaço onde estas informações devem ser também abordadas. Nesse trabalho buscou-se investigar as concepções e práticas de professores de química do ensino médio sobre a abordagem de fake news na sala de aula. Esta pesquisa do tipo qualitativa e exploratória foi realizada com 5 professores de química que participaram de uma entrevista utilizando o aplicativo WhatsApp. Através das respostas dos professores, percebemos que estes não dominam o significado do termo fake news mas tem tido a necessidade de abordá-las na sala de aula devido a pandemia.
