Social transformation in Brazil: the impact of social movements on education

Resumo: | In this paper, we discuss the relationship between social movements and education. Social movements are collective actions that typically employ public pressure to propose public policies across various sectors of society, including education. While we currently witness a multitude of social movements, since the 1960s and 1970s, they have increasingly been recognized as less bureaucratic mechanisms capable of bridging the gap between society and policymakers, resulting in more systematic and impactful engagement. In the field of education, multiple fronts have been established. Formally, there is now a heightened focus on gender and ethnicity issues, whereas in the informal sphere of education, these movements have played a significant role in fostering a greater awareness among citizens on various aspects, including socio-environmental matters. |

O movimento social é uma ação coletiva que, usualmente utiliza da pressão pública, visando propor políticas públicas para vários setores da sociedade, incluindo a educação. Embora hoje tenhamos uma série de movimentos sociais, desde a década de 60 e 70, quando estes passaram a ser vistos como mecanismos menos burocráticos que poderiam fazer uma espécie de ponte entre sociedade e governantes, sua atuação tem sido mais sistemática e contundente. Na educação, várias frentes foram estabelecidas.
