Art, Geometry and Symmetry:: an application of Escher's Tessellation Technique in the teaching and learning process

Resumo: | Addressing in the classroom the harmony that geometry has with other areas of knowledge makes students use creativity and logical reasoning, which can be explored, for example, through art. Among so many methods of making art, Escher is a driving force in playing with his mosaics, using the so-called tessellation technique. The objective of this work is to present the tessellation technique, applied to 2nd year high school students, in the city of Frei Gaspar/MG. For this, a didactic sequence with the definition of content, themes, activities and duration was used. As a result, the students developed mosaics, using Escher's tessellation technique, that is, 'bite technique', using geometric figures and symmetry. Qualitative results were obtained, noticing the engagement of the students present. |

Qualitative results were obtained, noticing the engagement of the students present.Abordar na sala de aula a harmonia que a geometria possui com outras áreas de conhecimento faz com que os discentes usem a criatividade e o raciocínio lógico, podendo ser explorado, por exemplo, através da arte. Dentre tantos métodos de se fazer arte, Escher é um propulsor em brincar com seus mosaicos, usando a então chamada técnica de tesselação. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar a técnica de tesselação, aplicada a alunos do 2º ano do ensino médio, no município de Frei Gaspar/MG. Para isso foi utilizada uma sequência didática com a definição de conteúdo, temas, atividades e duração. Como resultado os alunos desenvolveram mosaicos, a partir da técnica de tesselação de Escher, ou seja, ‘’técnica da dentada’’, utilizando figuras geométricas e simetria.
