Resumo: Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is defined as a qualitative defect in the development of dental enamel, affecting one to four first molars and possibly the permanent incisors. We sought to present the factors that could lead to the development of hypomineralization in the first permanent molars and incisors, with their characteristics, thus making a correct diagnosis of this condition. This is an integrative review, using the PubMed, VHL and Scielo databases, the inclusion criteria were articles between the years 2012 to 2021 with the descriptors: Defect ''and'' Diagnosis '' and' Hypomineralization, studies that addressed the topic and were available in full, theses, monographs, articles not accessible online were excluded. However, studies have reported that disturbances in the maturation or mineralization phase, genetic factors, pre, peri, and postnatal factors, as well as early childhood illness, drug use in pregnancy, and delivery complications can lead to the development of this condition.

EdUECE2023-09-02info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionTextoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/otherapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.uece.br/index.php/conexaocomciencia/article/view/8612Conexão ComCiência; v. 3 n. 3 (2023): RevCCC2763-5848reponame:Revista Conexão Comciênciainstname:Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE)instacron:UECEporhttps://revistas.uece.br/index.php/conexaocomciencia/article/view/8612/9684Copyright (c) 2023 MARIA SARA CARVALHO DE SOUSAhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCARVALHO DE SOUSA, MARIA SARAde Sousa Silva Matias, Mara RamelCamêlo Soares, Tânderson Rittieride Mesquita Farias Teixeira, Matheusde Sousa Franco, Luana2023-09-02T16:55:47Zoai:ojs.revistas.uece.br:article/8612Revistahttps://revistas.uece.br/index.php/conexaocomciencia/PUBhttps://revistas.uece.br/index.php/conexaocomciencia/oaiconexao.comciencia@uece.br2763-58482763-5848opendoar:2023-09-02T16:55:47Revista Conexão Comciência - Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE)false
