Semiotics signs in the handcrafted production at the Arteza producer’s cooperative: the artisan as a symbolic vector of production

This paper shows partial results obtained through an ongoing research about the study of the relationships between the artisan and the handcrafted production at the ARTEZA producer’s cooperative, in the city of Cabaceiras, Brazil. The study aims to investigate the semiotics signs developed by the artisans in relation to the changes that have taken place (and are still occurring) since the beginning of the producer’s cooperative. The research applies a bibliographical review in addition to interviews with some of the artisans. We conclude the paper by presenting perspectives about how the production of semiotics signs interacts with a production process that is so closely related to the representations of the artisans lifestyle, which are, in turn, subjected to changes related to individual productive processes and that create new means of production.
