Resumo: Twenty five genotypes of pigeon pea were evaluated at Agriculture College of Jaboticabal - UNESP - University at December 1987 to January 1989 starding a breeding program desigued to improve agronomic and nutritional plant characteristics. Lines L6 ESALQ and ICPL 87 were earlier and showed better agronomic characteristics than other genotypes. They also had high protein content and could be mecanicaly harvested.

They also had high protein content and could be mecanicaly harvested.   Com vistas ao inicio de um programa de melhoramento de Guandu, 25 genótipos foram avaliados na FCAV-UNESP de Jaboticabal, SP, no período de dezembro/87 à janeiro/89. As características agronômicas e nutricionais avaliadas foram: dias para o florescimento, cor de flor, hábito de crescimento, tipo de inflorescência, maturação, altura de planta, altura do 1° galho, tamanho de vagem, cor de sementes, peso de 100 sementes, % de óleo e % de proteína.
