Arthur Thomas Municipal Park in Londrina - PR: political socio-environmental conflicts in a diversity territory (1975-2009)

The present study object is the Arthur Thomas Municipal Park’s historic and natural constitution, located in southern city of Londrina in Paraná. Considered by Brazilian legislation as a unity of environmental conservation, the park has several aspects that are being researched such as its history, legislation concerning the creation and also the conflicts and relationships existing in place which express a range of political and social forces in tension that manage this space. Thus, we seek to understand the relationships between individuals and nature within an urban centre. To do this task, demonstrating the momentum of the city of Londrina and the need for preservation of green areas, symbolized here by an urban park. The proposed methodology for this work includes the creative human action and manufacturing environment and we can understand it through a survey and analysis of documentation of the Park, in addition to the participation of the community of its surroundings through questionnaires. We assign this analysis the various forms of ownership and the difficulties faced by a small green area located within the limits of an urban centre, being that the pressure exerted by city affects directly and indirectly the diversity that survives within the Park and also affects neighboring population.
