Sensoriality of medieval orchads

Resumo: Although medieval people knew and lived in contact with nature, the allusions in the literary texts do not go into great detail about it. This is due to the fact that the appreciation of the vegetal world was fundamentally rhetorical, inherited from Antiquity and impregnated by the Christian perspective. The expressive space of literature, largely intended to persuade, describes nature through sensory and bodily metaphors that always link it to the human being. Within this framework, the article analyses the sensoriality of orchards in two works, belonging to the miraculous genre but from different times, which recover the rhetorical landscape of the orchard but connote it as a sensory landscape: Milagros de Nuestra Señora, written in the 13th century by Gonzalo de Berceo, and Los Milagros de Guadalupe, composed in the 15th century.

Ello se debe a que su apreciación del mundo vegetal era fundamentalmente retórica, heredada de la Antigüedad e impregnada por la perspectiva cristiana. El espacio expresivo de la literatura, destinado en gran medida a persuadir, describe la naturaleza a través de metáforas sensoriales y corporales que siempre la vinculan al ser humano. En ese marco, el artículo analiza la sensorialidad de los vergeles en dos obras, pertenecientes al género milagroso pero de distintas centurias, que recuperan el paisaje retórico del vergel pero lo connotan como un paisaje sensorial: los Milagros de Nuestra Señora, de Gonzalo de Berceo, del siglo XIII, y Los Milagros de Guadalupe, del siglo XV.Apesar de o homem medieval conhecer e viver em contato com a natureza, as alusões nos textos literários não entram em muitos detalhes sobre ela. Isso se deve ao fato de que sua apreciação do mundo vegetal era fundamentalmente retórica, herdada da Antiguidade e impregnada pela perspectiva cristã. O espaço expressivo da literatura, em grande parte destinado à persuasão, descreve a natureza por meio de metáforas sensoriais e corporais que sempre a vinculam ao ser humano.
