The digital sources at the world of technical images: Critical method, new media and the nature of the digital historical sources

Resumo: The present essay intends to discuss some of the theoretical aspects related to the usage of digital historical sources by historians. While the largest part of the bibliography about digital historical sources raises methodological questions that try to show the similitudes between digital sources and traditional historical sources, the work here presented aims at showing the differences between them. Through the use of concepts derived from media studies and software studies, it proposes that digital historical sources challenge the claims of factuality of historical discourse and the understanding of historical sources as evidences of the past, raising the need to rethink the relationship between historical method, historical document and historical discourse.

Embora grande parcela da bibliografia levante questões de método que procuram assemelhar as fontes digitais às fontes históricas tradicionais, argumenta-se que as primeiras possuem características que as afastam das últimas.
