Literature and society: busting out paradigms - the black woman’s resistance in a white, urban and chauvinist society

Resumo: In the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, in which high literature was established much later, the farm model and frontier wars determined the construction of a mythical model: the Gaucho, whose character was filtered by male, urban and educated eye. To women very little space was granted; however, in Quatro negros, Luis Augusto Fischer opens space for a black woman, poor, single mother, and ponders, upon it and through it, about the formation and consolidation of a “sulina” [southern] society, foregrounding in a certain way the marginal role blacks have been living in.
