Resumo: Considering language as a performative utterance (John L. Austin 1962), this paper aims to expand such conception to the reading process, understanding it not as a passive activity, but which acts, not only on individuals, but on all the discursive chain. Deconstructing the speech/writing dichotomy in Derrida’s Plato’s Pharmacy (1972), we reflect on the importance of recovering the indigenous narratives and promoting readings from them as mending ways, that is, as a way to carry out a social practice that the indigenous Canela people call to mpey. The present work can be seen as a reading act of the processes of reencounter between the Kotiria people, indigenous group located on the borders between Brazil and Colombia, and their histories and stories. Besides, this paper also aims to be a way of acting from the process of reading such narratives, inviting readers to know more about this people and find ways to appease centuries of silence of an entire culture.
