Resumo: This article maps the main discussions about democracy in Brazil from the second half of the twentieth century. Thus, the debate that flourished, mainly between 1946 and 1964 and between 1973 and 1984, went through, considering that during the first post-coup decade the power group of the military dictatorship almost monopolized the use of the word democracy.
