How to Read Weber in Portuguese? A Comparative Translation Proposal of the Works On Some Categories of Comprehensive Sociology (1913) and Fundamental Sociological Concepts (1921)

Resumo: Since the first publications of Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe, the debate about the translation of Weber's writings has gained a new relevance through the works of Keith Tribe, in the United States; Jean-Pierre Grossein, in France; Michele Basso and Reinhard Schmidt in Italy; and Álvaro Laiz and Gill Villegas in Mexico. Inspired by the motivation to contribute to the debate of Weberian lexicon’s translations in Brazil, we propose to further discuss the canonical translation of the central concepts found in “On some categories of Comprehensive Sociology (a text originally published in 1913 and translated by Augustin Wernet in Brazil), comparing and analyzing it to “Fundamental Sociological Concepts” (a Brazilian version essay translated in 1921 by Regis and Karen Barbosa). Bearing in mind that the 1921 text is an improved and updated version of the 1913 one, when comparing its conceptual structure with that of 1913, we suggest translations that reveal an interconnexion between same level concepts in both texts.

Imbuidos de la misma motivación de contribuir al debate sobre las traducciones del léxico weberiano en Brasil, nos proponemos re-discutir la traducción canónica de los conceptos centrales de Sobre algunas categorías de la Sociología Integral (texto publicado originalmente en 1913 y traducido en Brasil de Augustin Wernet), a la luz del análisis comparativo con Conceptos sociológicos fundamentales (ensayo de 1921, traducción brasileña de Regis y Karen Barbosa). Considerando que el texto de 1921 es una versión mejorada y actualizada, al comparar su estructura conceptual con la de 1913, proponemos traducciones que revelan la interrelación entre los conceptos del mismo nivel en uno y otro texto.Desde as primeiras publicações da Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe, a discussão sobre a tradução dos escritos de Weber adquiriu nova relevância: nos Estados Unidos, com Keith Tribe; na França, com Jean-Pierre Grossein; na Itália, com Michele Basso e Reinhard Schmidt; e no México, com Álvaro Laiz e Gill Villegas. Imbuídos pela mesma motivação de contribuir com o debate sobre as traduções do léxico weberiano no Brasil, propomos rediscutir a tradução canônica dos conceitos centrais de Sobre algumas categorias da Sociologia Compreensiva (texto publicado originalmente em 1913 e traduzido no Brasil por Augustin Wernet), à luz da análise comparativa com Conceitos Sociológicos Fundamentais (ensaio de 1921, tradução brasileira realizada por Regis e Karen Barbosa).
