Ethnography, gender and power: feminist anthropology in action

Resumo: From the contact with the vast and multidisciplinary field of feminist theory came the need to understand what would be the specific contribution of anthropology to the development of this field. This gave rise to Feminist Anthropology, which is characterized by its great commitment to ethnography and its reflection on power. This theoretical and methodological model was the basis for ethnographic research on the feminist political field and contemporary popular female activism in Recife, Pernambuco. Based on ethnographic data from this research project, this paper aims to demonstrate what is meant by Feminist Anthropology, as well as to reflect on its analytical and theoretical advantages and the challenges it entails. We conclude this discussion by questioning the viability of this model in Brazil.

Foi assim que se possibilitou o encontro com uma certa Antropologia Feminista, caracterizada pelo grande apego à etnografia e à reflexão acerca do poder. Esta vertente teórico-metodológica foi a base para a pesquisa etnográfica sobre o campo político feminista e o ativismo feminino popular contemporâneo em Recife-PE. A partir de alguns dados etnográficos da referida pesquisa, neste texto busca-se demonstrar o que se entende por Antropologia Feminista, bem como refletir sobre a sua rentabilidade analíticoteórica e os desafios em que implica.
