Haitian immigration and crime in the city of Manaus

Resumo: This article addressed the relationship between the recorded crime in the city of Manaus in the period from January 2010 to May 2013 and the immigration of Haitians held starting from 2010 due to the earthquake that struck that country. The interchange of data between race, crime and violence was justified because this immigration movement triggered reactions in Manaus society, resulting from various factors, such as social prejudice, racism and xenophobia. They collected the crime data in the period analyzed and extracted the records that had victims and / or Haitian authors. It was identified that the Haitians were victims in almost all found records, and that no Haitian committed the crimes potentially offensive in the period analyzed.

O entrecruzamento de dados entre raça, crime e violência justificou-se, pois este movimento imigratório desencadeou reações na sociedade manauara, decorrentes do de fatores diversos, tais como preconceito social, racismo e xenofobia. Foram coletados os dados da criminalidade no período analisado e extraídos os registros que possuíam vítimas e/ou autores haitianos.
