Resumo: This research analyzes the virtual environment’s structured levels of government regulation, within the context of governance and its three divisions – democracy, autocracy and anarchy. Furthermore, this study´s objective is to explore these environments’ affinity to societal relations present in our densely connected society. Moreover, this paper studies democratic theory through a historical perspective, which spans ancient times to present-day´s globalized society. That said, this study uses deductive reasoning, explores governance, and new technologies that prove the extent of democratic tendencies within the development of the internet. Finally, this paper verifies the inconsistencies of anarchical and libertarian proposals that targets the (de)regulation of cyberspace; therefore, defining the applicability of an adapted democratic structure to the worldwide web, specifically with the proposal of an electronic government.

Finally, this paper verifies the inconsistencies of anarchical and libertarian proposals that targets the (de)regulation of cyberspace; therefore, defining the applicability of an adapted democratic structure to the worldwide web, specifically with the proposal of an electronic government.
